Our Story

Real Honey, The Way Nature Made It

Barden Honey is a small, family-run honey producer based in Panania, in Sydney's south-west. Every jar of our raw honey starts the same way — out in the bushland, with bees doing what they do best. We take our time with it: the honey is cold-extracted and never heated, so it keeps its natural flavour, aroma, and goodness exactly as the bees made it. Order online for local pickup, or we post our raw honey anywhere in Australia.

Because we harvest in small runs rather than mass-producing, no two batches are quite the same — the colour and taste can shift a little depending on what was flowering that season. That's part of what makes raw honey worth seeking out.

Stock is tied to each harvest, so once a batch sells out, it's gone until the next one comes in.

  • Raw & cold-extracted, no heat used
  • No additives, no blending
  • Hand-jarred in small batches
  • Locally harvested

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about our honey, from hive to jar.

How is your honey extracted?
We use a cold-extraction method — no heat at any stage. The wax cappings are sliced off each frame with a cold serrated knife, then the frames are placed in a centrifuge extractor and spun. The honey is flung out, drops to the bottom, and passes through a strainer that removes pieces of comb and debris, leaving pure, raw honey.
Is any heat used when extracting the honey?
No. At no point in our extraction process is any heat used. This keeps all the natural enzymes, aroma and goodness intact — exactly as the bees made it.
Do you post Australia-wide?
Yes — we post across Australia via Australia Post (Parcel Post). Please note that due to biosecurity restrictions, we are unable to ship honey to Western Australia or Kangaroo Island.
Where is pickup available?
Pickup is available from two locations: Panania (2213) and Barden Ridge (2234). Just get in touch to arrange a time.
What flowers does the honey come from?
Our raw bush honey is a natural blend of many different native bush flower species. Because it follows whatever is in bloom, the flavour and colour can vary a little from batch to batch — that's part of what makes real bush honey special.
What's the difference between creamed honey and raw bush honey?
It's the same pure honey — just a different texture. Creamed honey has been set with a very fine crystal structure, giving it a smooth, spreadable, creamy consistency. Our raw bush honey is the natural liquid form.
Does the honey crystallise?
Yes — all natural honey crystallises over time, and it's actually a good sign that the honey is pure and untampered with. Many supermarket brands heat their honey to stop it crystallising, but that also destroys much of its natural goodness. If your jar crystallises, simply stand it in a bowl of warm water and it will return to liquid.
Does the honey expire?
No. Bees reduce the water content of honey to a level where it is naturally sterile, so it doesn't spoil. Edible honey has even been found in Egyptian tombs thousands of years old.
How do you control varroa mite?
Varroa mite, left unchecked, will kill a bee colony, so treating for it is essential. We only use organic treatments — oxalic acid (a natural compound found in rhubarb leaves) and thyme oil (from the thyme plant) — to keep our bees healthy without harsh chemicals.
Are your hives chemical free?
Yes. Our hives are chemical free and we don't use antibiotics in our production hives. We follow ethical, industry best-practice beekeeping to keep our bees healthy and our honey pure, local, raw and real.
